Breast Lift With Implants
If your breasts are sagging or have lost shape due to childbirth, weight loss or as part of the ageing process and you have very little breast volume, a cosmetic surgery procedure that involves a combination of a breast lift (mastopexy) and the insertion of breast implants (breast enlargement) can achieve your desired look.
Breast uplift surgery with the addition of implants will elevate ptosis (drooping) breasts by correcting the shape, position and increase the size of the breasts during one operation that takes approximately 2-2.5 hours, under a general anaesthetic and requires an overnight stay in hospital. Breast uplift surgery is extremely effective in order to give the breasts a more youthful and pert appearance.
If you already have sufficient breast volume then a breast lift without implants may be suggested by your surgeon. All your options will be discussed in detail at your surgeon consultation including the size of the implant and the extent of the breast lift.
Is a breast lift with implants right for me?
Breast lift operations involve lifting and repositioning the nipple in the centre of the breasts. The breast skin may also need to be tightened and the breast tissue repositioned higher on the chest, at which point implants will be inserted. Lifting the breast will involve a certain amount of extra scarring. This may be restricted to the area around the nipple (circumareolar) or extend onto the breast (lollipop or anchor). Your incisions will be closed with either dissolvable or removable sutures. Your surgeon may place a drain on each side to remove unwanted fluid from around your implants. These are usually removed prior to discharge. Occasionally drains need to be left in place for a little longer. The procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic and will involve an overnight stay in the hospital following surgery. In the majority of cases the patient is discharged the next day. Recovery
Your breast implants need to be held in their new position, so you will require a surgical support bra to stay in place for a two to four-week period after breast lift and enlargement surgery. During this time you must restrict your activity to ensure the breast implants are not disturbed. Your surgeon may also recommend an upper pole strap to hold your breasts in the desired position. What is the long-term impact of breast surgery?
Breast surgery is a long-term commitment, and you may require adjustment surgery at a later date. Modern breast implants can last for over 20 years without needing to be replaced, but if you are in your early 20s, please be aware that you may require additional surgery later in life.
