Insuring Celebrity Body Parts
Posted on August 7, 2015
Celebrities often make the news for insuring their body parts, but as our infographic shows, a policy is often taken out to generate publicity for brands rather than to provide protection against loss of earnings. From Costa Coffee to Tetley Tea, brands have been paying premiums for PR for decades, and they don’t show signs of stopping any time soon.
Some of these insurance policies make perfect sense from a brand perspective – Aquafresh insuring the smile of Ugly Betty star America Ferrera (minus the braces) is a marketing match made in heaven, while Head & Shoulders wouldn’t have raised any eyebrows with its decision to insure Troy Polamalu’s hair. Others make a little less sense, however – why exactly was a bank insuring someone’s thumbs?
Take a look through our infographic and discover the other brands that have taken out insurance policies for publicity: from ice cream and wine to pizza and hosiery, brands have proved time and again that body parts can be more valuable than you’d ever imagine.
